Cardiac arrest is a medical emergency that can lead to death. With urgent medical care to restart the heart, survival is possible.

Quick decision-making to recognise and assess a cardiac emergency, call for medical assistance, and perform Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) procedures will increase the chance of survival for a person who is unconscious and not breathing normally.

In this CPR course, you will learn these skills, in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines, including using an automated external defibrillator (AED), how to rotate first aiders with minimal interruptions to compressions, and what to do if the casualty regurgitates or vomits.

The course also covers conveying accurate incident details when handing the casualty over to emergency services, how to review an incident, to recognise any psychological impacts on self and other rescuers, to seek help if required, and for improvement of own personal skills and response times.

COURSE DELIVERY
  • 100% Online Training - self paced online learning with a scheduled video conference practical assessment with a trainer.
  • Or, in the workplace or at an Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO or third party facility.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Participants must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations, such as 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.

Pre-course study: Students may be required to undertake online pre-course work prior to attending the face to face session depending on the course delivery mode.

Online study: Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies.

Students completing the 100% Online Course will require first aid training equipment for the video conference practical assessment session. Your training provider will arrange this upon your booking.

COURSE DURATION
  • 100% Online Training - self paced online learning with a scheduled 40 minute (minimum) video conference practical assessment with a trainer.
  • Refresher minimum duration – 90 minutes
  • Blended minimum duration – 90 minutes
  • Face to Face minimum duration – 2 hours
  • Online with Face to Face minimum duration - 20 minutes

ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS
Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks. These are detailed in the sections following.

​Having the skills, knowledge, and confidence to recognise and respond to life-threatening emergencies can save a person’s life!  
In this first aid course, you will learn these first aid skills in line with legal, workplace and community considerations, Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and other Australian national peak clinical bodies.  
The course covers assessing the casualty, providing safety, accessing emergency services, and using resources to provide first aid, such as providing CPR and using a defibrillator, administering an autoinjector for anaphylaxis, administering asthma medication, assisting someone choking, managing casualties with non-life-threatening bleeding and shock.
You will learn basic anatomy, physiology and the differences between adults, children and infants relating to CPR, and the importance of the chain of survival. Also, conveying accurate details when handing the casualty over to emergency services, reviewing an incident to improve own skills and response times, recognise psychological impacts from the incident, and seeking help as required.

COURSE DELIVERY

This course will be delivered in the workplace or at an Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO or Third party facility.

Successful completion of this course will provide participants with the knowledge and skills to be able to develop an asthma management plan and provide asthma related first aid interventions in the workplace.
The course covers the correct use of reliever medication, recognition, risk management, prevention and risk minimisation strategies related to asthma.
Individuals completing this course will be able to apply their skills and knowledge in either the workplace or in the community.

  • Participants must have the physical fitness to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration such as assisting a casualty into the correct position and administering asthma medication.

This course has been designed for individuals who are required to provide first aid to a person experiencing anaphylaxis until the arrival of medical assistance. This means being able to identify the triggers, signs and symptoms of allergic reactions and anaphylaxis, and follow the standard first aid procedures to administer adrenaline using an adrenaline autoinjector to someone suffering anaphylaxis in the workplace or in the community.
Satisfactorily completing all requirement of this course provides the student with the ability to develop risk management and risk minimisation strategies for individuals diagnosed at risk of anaphylaxis in the workplace. This includes the development and implementation of pre-emergency risk assessment/management and the development and implementation of individual anaphylaxis management plans.
This course provides nationally recognised training for workers, or nominated workplace first aiders, from any industry sector and addresses the provision of care to adults and/or children in the workplace who are diagnosed as being at risk of anaphylaxis or displaying signs/symptoms of anaphylaxis.
COURSE DELIVERYThis course will be delivered in the workplace or at an Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO or Third party facility.

 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

  • As a minimum, entrants to this course must have literacy and numeracy competencies equivalent to the Australian Core Skills Framework Level 2. An example of an ACSF Level 2 competency is being able to read and comprehend the ASCIA Action Plan for Anaphylaxis, request appropriate emergency assistance at the scene of the incident and complete incident reports.
  • In addition, it is recommended that entrants have current competency in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Participants must have the physical fitness to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration such as positioning a casualty ready to administer an autoinjector and administering the autoinjector.

COURSE DURATION
  • Face to Face – 3 hours (minimum) full face to face course
  • Blended delivery – 2 hours (minimum) face to face course – with the addition of 1 hour self-paced learning to be completed prior to attending the face to face course
  • Online delivery with face to face Practical assessment – self paced online learning with a scheduled 15-minute face to face practical assessment
  • Refresher training – 2 hours (minimum) face to face course – conditions apply for this option, for example, you will need to provide previous current certificates.

ASSESSMENT ACTIVITIES

Assessments conducted during face-to-face training session(s) include:
  • Practical demonstrations:
    • Provide first aid treatment for anaphylaxis and administer adrenaline using a trainer autoinjector device on a mock casualty
    • Provide first aid treatment for mild to moderate allergy which progresses to anaphylaxis and administer adrenaline using a trainer autoinjector device on a mock casualty
  • Documentation - The student must complete the following to the appropriate standard:
    • First aid/Incident report form
    • Complete a risk assessment for anaphylaxis and an individual management plan for a child with anaphylaxis based on a case study and information provided
    • Individual anaphylaxis management plan for a child, which includes a communication plan to raise awareness of the child’s allergies, and their anaphylaxis management plan
  • Theory assessment - A written assessment consisting of multiple-choice and short answer questions. The student must complete all assessment questions.

This course has been designed for individuals who are required to provide first aid to a person experiencing asthma and/or anaphylaxis until the arrival of medical assistance.  This means being able to identify the triggers, signs and symptoms and follow the standard first aid procedures to administer medication according to condition.
Satisfactorily completing all requirement of this course provides the student with the ability to develop risk management and risk minimisation strategies for individuals diagnosed at risk of asthma and/or anaphylaxis in the workplace. This includes the development and implementation of pre-emergency risk assessment/management and the development and implementation of individual management plans.

This course provides nationally recognised training for workers, or nominated workplace first aiders, from any industry sector and addresses the provision of care to adults and/or children in the workplace who are diagnosed as being at risk or displaying signs/symptoms.

** There are specific industries that require additional training such as childcare workers, school teachers and other related industries.

 COURSE DELIVERY

This course will be delivered in the workplace or at an Allens Training Pty Ltd RTO or Third party facility.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
  • As a minimum, entrants to this course must have literacy and numeracy competencies equivalent to the Australian Core Skills Framework Level 2. An example of an ACSF Level 2 competency is being able to read and comprehend the ASCIA Action Plan for Anaphylaxis, request appropriate emergency assistance at the scene of the incident and complete incident reports.
  • In addition, it is recommended that entrants have current competency in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
  • Participants must have the physical fitness to be able to meet the demands of the practical demonstration such as positioning a casualty ready to administer an autoinjector and administering the autoinjector and for administering asthma medication.

 COURSE DURATION (FACE TO FACE)
  • Face to Face – 4.5 hours (minimum) – full face to face course
  • Blended delivery – 3 hours (minimum) face to face course – with the addition of 1.5-hour self-paced learning to be completed prior to attending the face to face course
  • Refresher training – 3 hours (minimum) – conditions apply for this option, for example, you will need to provide previous current certificates.

 ASSESSMENT REQUIREMENTS

Individuals undertaking this course will be expected to complete both written and practical assessment tasks. These are detailed in the section following.

 CERTIFICATE RENEWAL REQUIREMENTS

Currency and refresher training requirements:

Requirements for first aid competencies, including refresher training, are dependent on both the state/territory jurisdiction as well as the industry sector. Refresher training and currency of first aid knowledge and skills is to be demonstrated in line with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines (http://www.resus.org.au/), Guidelines of Australian national peak clinical bodies, Relevant industry regulations, and State/territory legislation and regulations. There is no industry recommended renewal identified on the certificate, employers are recommended to consult with stakeholders to identify appropriate training periods.

Successful completion of this course will provide participants with the skills and knowledge and most importantly, confidence, to provide first aid treatment to any person suffering a sudden illness or injury, such as asthma or anaphylaxis.  This includes the skills to preserve life, prevent the condition from worsening, and promote recovery.  It includes initial intervention in a casualty with a serious condition until the arrival of medical assistance, such as performing CPR while awaiting an ambulance, as well as the complete treatment of other less serious conditions, such as applying water for burns, or assisting someone choking.

Participants will go further into the knowledge and skills to develop an asthma management plan and provide asthma related first aid interventions in the workplace.

The course is delivered in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines and applies to all workers or members of the community who may be required to provide first aid and CPR in the event of an emergency and manage asthma and anaphylaxis in the workplace.

It is recommended that students will be best equipped to successfully undertake the training if they have language, literacy and oral communication skills that align to Level 3 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF).

Participants must have the physical capacity to perform all practical demonstrations including 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on the floor.
Pre-course study: Students may be required to undertake online pre-course work prior to attending the face to face session depending on the course delivery mode.

Online study options: Students must have access to a computer, smartphone, tablet or other electronic devices with access to the internet to complete the online/ pre-course studies.

COURSE DURATION
  • Face to Face – 6 hours (minimum) full face to face course
  • Blended delivery – 4 hours (minimum)
  • Online delivery with face to face 30 minutes (minimum)
